Ladies and Gentlemen “Start Your Engines!” – The Lighted Tractor Parade Is Coming!

For as far back as I can remember, the Orange Holiday Festival (and tree lighting) was one of the most anticipated events of the year. Everyone flocked out to join in the activities, participate in the gingerbread house contest, listen to a variety of singers, marvel in the bell choir at the Congregational Church, see the model railroad, and tour the Victorian Era Stone-Otis House.

The Icing on the cake was the tree lighting on the town green and of course, Santa’s arrival.

That was, until eight years ago, when the Lighted Tractor Parade was introduced to the schedule. Back in 2017, there were 15 tractors of all sizes, each with its own unique decorations, and the crowd was more than excited! The tractors circled the green for all to see then lined up on the grass behind the tree, so everyone could see them up close and personal.

Delightful, yes, but there was a downside, the heavy diesel exhaust lingered in the air and some people wandered away before the tree lighting was over. Every subsequent year the tractors traveled straight to the High Plains Community Center.

The dreaded COVID year (2020) was full of uncertainty. But the committee brainstormed a way to show off the tractors, and ensured that everyone was socially distanced.

By last year, the amount of participants had risen to a whopping 68, and the audience remained enthusiastic until the very last one rolled down the road.

The parade committee has been working hard on making this year’s event bigger and better than ever. They’d like to remind everyone that now is a good time to start planning your designs and getting ready to wow the crowd on Dec. 7.

There is a beautiful webpage HERE that includes all of the information you’ll need if you want to participate, along with a comprehensive year-by-year history, and some beautiful photos from past parades.

Get ready to have some fun!
