The Orange Conservation Commission (OCC) has announced several events to celebrate Spring and encourage residents to get outdoors.
Earth Day
First up is Earth Day which will be celebrated on Saturday, April 22.
The OCC encourages residents to hit the trails of Orange’s open space. Trail maps can be found in “A Guide to the Open Spaces of Orange, Connecticut” which is a full-color reference for maximum enjoyment of the town’s 1,000 acres of public open space. It provides useful information including trail maps, brief descriptions of each site, facilities, hours, and even GPS addresses for the parking areas.
The 18 by 24 guide folds into a convenient pocket-sized tool. It features a town map indicating the locations of all of the passive and active open spaces, and charts showing available and permitted uses at each site. Copies are available at the
Orange Parks and Recreation office or by visiting the OCC Web Site http://www.orangectconservationcommission.com.
Trail Grooming Day
Orange Conservation Commission (OCC) is hosting a “trail grooming day” at Turkey Hill Preserve located at (GPS) 700 Derby-Milford Road, Orange on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 9:00 am to noon. Open arrival and departure – even one hour of help will make a difference.
We will meet in the parking lot. Participants are encouraged to wear work gloves and waterproof footwear, and requested to bring rakes, small pruning tools, clippers, etc. We will be clearing branches, ground-cover and debris from the entrance area and trails.
The OCC will provide water, trash bags, and safety eyewear. The workday will be cancelled in the event of rain.
This is a fun way to learn about Turkey Hill Preserve trails! Please come out and help maintain Orange’s beautiful open spaces!
