Orange Police: New Yorker Traveled To CT To Steal Restaurant Grease

Orange Police Department

On Monday, April 28, Orange police officers observed a white cargo style van entering multiple business /restaurant parking lots on the Boston Post Road.

According to the report, at 3:16 a.m. the officers saw the van near a grease trap in the back of 501 Boston Post Road (Mai Thai Restaurant). They approached the van and confronted the driver, Delwis Santana, 38, from New York, NY.

They noted a fresh grease/cooking oil smell emanating from the van. Grease tanks also were located in
the rear of the van.

Santana was taken into custody and charged with third-degree criminal trespass and fourth-degree larceny.

He was released after posting a $5,000 bond and received a court date of May 12.

Why would someone steal old cooking oil? Old cooking oil is recycled to be used in the production of dog food, cosmetics, and — most importantly — biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a clean and renewable alternative to traditional diesel.

Thieves can net $3,000 per day but the cost of being caught, as many are when trolling through the town of Orange, is a criminal record and possible jail time. — Get a job, people!
