Community Book Sale

Saturday, June 24, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Conducted in our basement by the Friends of the Library.

 

 

Ban This Book Club: The Bluest Eye

Monday, June 26, 7 p.m.

The Bluest Eye has been on the top 10 most frequently challenged books list 8 times in the last 20 years. It is currently banned in at least one library or school in 13 states. Join Librarian Rebecca Harlow and co-leader Elizabeth Ewen as we discuss this as a work of literature as well as an object of censorship. Copies are available at the Circulation Desk.

Summer STEAM: Penny Boats

Tuesday, June 27, 3 p.m.

Design a boat and see if it floats! Put your engineering skills to the test and see how many pennies your boat can hold before it sinks! For ages 6 to 12.

Crochet Club

Saturday, July 1, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

All skill levels are welcome. Please bring your own supplies. The Hooked on the Sound (HOTS) Crochet Guild is a non-profit group of enthusiastic crocheters in New Haven County. HOTS meets monthly to share stitch successes, assist with pattern problems, and education, and generally have a great time crocheting! Bring any crochet project you are working on or one you may need help with. No registration is necessary.

 

Take and Make: Independence Day Straw Rockets

July 3-8

Make a mini firework-shaped rocket and launch it with a straw! Summer take and makes are available in the children’s room on a first come, first served basis. No registration is required. This craft will become available on July 3rd and can be picked up at the desk in the children’s room.

Teen Volunteer Shelf Reader Training

Saturday, July 1, 2:30 p.m.

Are you a high school student interesting in earning volunteer hours? Come to this training session and learn to be a volunteer shelf manager. The shelf manager position is ideal for students who are highly organized and need a flexible volunteer schedule. You’ll learn how to properly shelve and arrange items in our different departments and keep our shelves tidy. Registration is requested but drop-ins are welcome.

Zoom Trivia

Thursday, July 6, 7 p.m.

Join us for a game of general knowledge trivia! The game will consist of three rounds of ten questions each with randomized categories. Teams will be allowed, but must submit only one answer from one device. The top three winners will receive their choice of a tote bag, pen set, or notebook as prizes! Please indicate whether you will be playing with a team or solo. This event will take place on Zoom and utilize the program Slides with Friends for the game content.
