Back in March, after the Board of Selectmen’s approval, the town signed a contract with Tower Clocks USA out of Charleston, South Carolina, for a glorious new permanent clock to perfectly commemorate the bicentennial and grace the center of town with that old-timey feel.
The clock face has large, easy to read hands and beautiful Roman numerals, for the time, and it is adorned with the bright bicentennial logo.
“We’re very pleased, it’s exactly as we ordered it, with the bicentennial logo right in the center,” Selectman Mitch Goldblatt said. “It will be here for many years to come and a permanent reminder of our bicentennial.”
Goldblatt worked closely with First Selectman Jim Zeoli on this important project, agreeing on the colors; black and gold, which make it look elegant (and match the Amity colors), to the words “Town Of Orange” on top and the town’s corporation date of 1822 below the face.
This morning (Wednesday, Aug. 24) at 8 a.m. a flatbed carrying the 16-foot tall pedestal (tower) and clock arrived on the Town Hall lawn. After taking care of early morning business, Orange Live arrived at 8:10 a.m., after the tower had been put into place.
Luckily, Goldblatt, who was overseeing the installation, took some video and photos that he graciously shared with us (for YOU).

At 9:30 a.m. the highway department and an electrican were working on getting the clock hooked up so that it will accurately display the time for passersby.
As an added convenience, the clock will be backlit at night.
So, next time you’re driving by Town Hall take notice of the new addition. It really is quite stunning. The trick will be making sure it displays the time correctly for years to come.
