For the third consecutive year, the Orange Board of Selectmen have endorsed lighting of the Orange Town Hall to commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
With the assistance of the Congregation Or Shalom Men’s Club, and special assistance from Town Clerk Mary Shaw, Orange Town Hall and Congregation Or Shalom, are two of many area landmarks that are lit up in yellow through Tuesday evening, marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th Anniversary of liberation of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
The Yellow Light Project began in New York in 2022 and spread to Connecticut in 2023. For the third straight year, several landmarks in the New Haven area have been lit to signify this event.
It is hoped that seeing this Light and Remembrance Program will have people think about and never forget the victims of the Holocaust, which included the extermination of European Jews and others who were singled out due to their religion, ethnicity, disability and ideology before and during World War II.
