December’s full moon tonight, the last one of the year, will usher in the winter constellations and notably, three naked-eye planets in the evening, according to space.com.
The Full Cold Moon will reach its peak at 11:36 p.m. but the rain
forecast for the entire day will most likely ruin most viewing opportunities, including the special closeup scene of Jupiter, Saturn and Venus lined up in a neat row in the southwestern sky.

Full Moon Name
In Native American cultures which tracked the calendar by the Moons, December’s Full Moon was known as the Full Cold Moon, according to the Farmers’ Almanac. It is fittingly associated with the month when the winter cold fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark.
This Full Moon also is called the Long Nights Moon by some Native American tribes because it occurs near the winter solstice (Dec. 21) — the day with the least amount of daylight.
