Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Blades Girls Ice Hockey Season So Far

The Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Blades Girls Ice Hockey team faced off against West Haven/Sacred Heart in West Haven on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Here’s how it went:

First Period: 

West Haven/Sacred Heart’s Julianna Gonzalez, assisted by Hailey Azzarone, scored first at 10:45

Then, at 14:27 the Blades’ Lucy Dickenson, tied the game, assisted by Maura Lebreck.

Second Period: 

Lots of action, but no movement on the scoreboard.

Third Period: 

Alessandra Picard broke the tie at 8:34 and brought West Haven/Sacred Heart into the lead and on to the win.

Saves:

The Blades’  Ivy Massicotte made 25 saves, and her team kept West Haven/Sacred Heart’s Evelyn Twarowski very busy, as she made 37 stops.

Blades: 2-1-0 — WH/SHA: 2-0-0

On Saturday, Dec. 28, the Blades took On Hamden in Hamden

The Blades’ Olivia Beach, made the final goal at 7:40, assisted by Lucy Dickenson

Hamden’s goalie Kyra Sweeney made 39 saves

On Monday, Dec. 30, The Blades traveled to the Darien Ice House for a game against New Canaan.

Here’s what happened:

First Period: 

Skating, shooting, but no joy for either team.

Second Period: 

New Canaan dominated the second period from the get-go with Fiona Colte, assisted by Serena O’Conner, scoring the first point at 2:07

The Blades’ Elaina Scasino tied the game unassisted at 10:47

Less than a minute later at 11:13 O’Conner, assisted by Maddie Tully, pulled New Canaan to the lead.

It didn’t take long before Izzy Hannah, assisted by O’Conner, shot the winning goal at 13:45

Third Period: 

The final period had plenty of action but the Blades could not pull ahead.

Saves:

The Blades’ Ivy Massicotte kept the score down by making 28 saves.

New Canaan goalie Maeyn Callahan stopped 15 shots.

Records:

Blades: 4-2-0 — New Canaan: 3-0-0

On Saturday, Jan. 5, the Blades hosted East Catholic in Hamden.

Here’s how it went:

First Period: 

East Catholic’s Liliana Ficaro made the first goal at 13:29

Taylor Higgins, tied the game for the Blades at 11:10, assisted by Maura Lebreck and Maybelle Caron

Just before the buzzer, Ficaro scored again, assisted by Juliana Sirois at 46.2

Second Period: 

The Blades came on strong in the second, with Maybelle Caron making a goal at 14:27 assisted by Emelia Brandi

The dynamic duo scored again at 2:05

Less than a minute later, Ficaro got a hat trick at 1:31, assisted by Charlotte Laramee

Score: Tied 3-3

Third Period: 

Pure determination had East Catholic breaking the tie seconds after returning to the ice.

Deirdre McKiernan scored that point at 14:27 assisted by Ficaro

Ficaro ended the game with her fourth goal with just 37.8 left on the clock.

Saves:

The Blades’ Ivy Massicotte made 23 saves

East Catholic goalie Lola Espírito Santo worked extra hard as the Blades fired shot after shot at her. She made 31 stops.

Blades: 4-3-0 — East Catholic 4-3-0
