Amity Wrestling: Fantastic 6-1 Season So Far

At 6-1, the Amity High School Wrestling team is off to its best start in more than a decade.

The team has had decisive victories over Cheshire and Morgan. The Spartans have been making a lot of noise at tournaments. They won the Shelton Individual tournament by 30 points over Canton. The team had nine finalists and four individual champions including Colin Boufford (106), Kyle Ciola (138), Simon Flaherty (182) and Andrew Cosia (285).  At the Trumbull Duals, the team went 4-1 to finish in fourth place which was the best they’ve finished in 10 years. The day started with a tough loss to Manchester, but the team bounced back with four consecutive victories over Masuk, Fairfield Ludlowe, Pomperaug

Head Coach Todd Paterson has been with the program for 10 seasons and is entering his second year as head coach. He is very excited about the start of the season, but he wants the team to stay focused so they can achieve the goals they set forth in the offseason. He believes the Spartans can make noise in the SCC Tournament if they maintain Self Control, be Respectful, and Disciplined, at all times.

The captains of the team are seniors Brayden Esposito, Simon Flaherty, and Liam Keylock.

This week, the team travels to Foran on Thursday, January 2, and Saturday to the Windham Duals. On January  11, they host the Amity Duals at Amity High School. The event starts at 9 am and should last until 3 pm. Come on out and support the Amity Spartans Wrestling team.
