The United Illuminating Company sent out this word of caution today via Twitter:
“We never demand immediate payment for our customers over the phone and we do not visit homes without an appointment or notification,” it stated.
“May scammers target business owners as well.” It continued, “If you receive a call or a visit demanding payment, call your local police and operating company.”
