There are so many days in our lives where we remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when an event so tragic it stays with us always. Kennedy’s assassination, the Challenger explosion, 9/11, Sandy Hook and the list could go on.
January 6, 2021 was one of those days. I recall working remotely and I had the television on to watch the certification of the Electoral College that would proclaim Joe Biden as our 46th President.
Then the unthinkable. Was I really watching Washington, DC? How could this be happening in the greatest country in the world? Like all of you, I was in shock and disbelief. In the year since, we have continued to see attacks on our democracy within our court system and state legislatures, not to mention many members of Congress.
Never, in my lifetime, have I felt our democracy to be so fragile. Never did I think it would ever become this fragile.
On this January 6, 2022, I ask you to take a few minutes to remember the events of January 6, 2021, those Capitol police who gave their lives and their families. I also ask you to take stock of our democracy. Never has it been more important to be informed and be involved, for the sake of the future of the United States of America.
May we never see this type of attack again and may God Bless America.
