On Thursday, Feb. 22, the #6 Amity Spartans Boys Basketball team hosted the #11 Daniel Hand Tigers for the First-Round of the SCC Tournament in Woodbridge.
The Spartans took an early 14-7 lead in the first quarter and never let up. The second quarter also was awesome with Amity going into the half at 26-11.
The third quarter was Hand’s strongest with 12 points, yet not enough to overtake Amity which pulled ahead even further with 15 points — third quarter score 41-23.
With this 18 point lead, the starters got a big break and the underclassmen had their turn to contribute to the SCC Tournament, including Sophomore Tanner Thomas who made 4 points.
His brother, Tyler Thomas was the game’s high scoring player with 21 points, which includes two 3-pointers. He also had five rebounds, five assists, and five steals to lead the Spartans to their SCC tournament first-round win.
James Van Hise added seven points for the Spartans. Tyler Boris led the Tigers with seven points.
