The Orange Volunteer Fire Department is en route to Old Hickory Road where a brush fire was reported around 1:28 p.m. today.
The homeowner stated that the fire was quickly approaching the rear of their home.
The first firefighters arrived at 1:33 p.m. and reported that the homeowner had reduced the fire considerably, and the chief ordered two of the responding trucks to return to the station.
Although this may not seem like a big deal, the Volunteer firefighters respond at all hours of the day and night in all kinds of weather. Today, the temperature was around 25-degrees, imagine how cold they must have been going outside, getting the hoses off the truck and staying until they knew it was safe for the homeowner, and the neighbors.
That’s what your all-volunteer fire department does for no pay, no praise. Just getting out there and doing what they do, often with no recognition or thanks.
The first responders have left the scene and now they have to put all of the equipment away, warm up, and wait for the next call.
