No Longer A Secret: Democrats Introduce Their Candidate For First Selectman

On Sunday, June 11 at 11 a.m. a small crowd gathered in front of the gazebo on the Orange Fairgrounds to hear an announcement, the details of which had been kept a closely guarded secret — the name of the person that the Orange Democrats would be running against Jim Zeoli for the office of first selectman in the upcoming election.

Mark Moyher may not be a household name, but you may recognize his face from events around town.

He and his wife have lived in Orange for 25 years, so he’s not a native, but he’s not a newbie either. Anyone who’s met him, including Zeoli say he’s a nice guy.

So, what does this “nice guy” want to bring to the town?  • transparent budgeting • strong leadership • and a solid business plan.

In his speech, Moyher said, “I believe we need better Economic Development plans as Orange deserves to have more retail areas and more places to dine and socialize.”

As a community, we need more! More programs for our children and their families.More services for our seniors.More cultural and recreational activities for all residents,” he said.

Moyher said he would  bring the financial and management experience of his nearly 40-year career in business to the ofice of First Selectman, along with his high energy and drive to evolve.

“As a young business professional, I started in an entry-level position, and worked my way up to Vice President and Senior Trader at an internationally recognized investment firm,” he said. “I will ensure that Orange keeps up with the times and is modernized for the future.”

For the past several years, Moyher has served as a member and now the Secretary and Treasurer of the Orange Recycling committee.

“I am working hard to reduce our town’s trash and carbon footprint which is not only good for the environment, but saves the town money,” he said. “This community service is what sparked my interest in giving back. I have decided that now is the right time for me to step up.”

His campaign slogan is “You will Get More with Moyher.”
