The Traffic Authority of the Orange Police Commission met at the Orange Police Department on Monday, March 11.
Following are brief notes from that meeting:
Chief Robert Gagne made the Board aware of the Ride for Hope Charity Motorcycle Ride that will be coming through town on June 2. Lt. Ray LaPlante will be involved.
The monthly meeting of the Orange Police Commission included the following:
The activity of the Department– Assistant Chief Max Martins outlined the February statistics with the Commissioners.
There were 32 criminal arrests
136 motor vehicle citations.
There was l commercial burglary.
There were 2 motor vehicles stolen and neither was recovered.
In addition, there were 23 larcenies and 72 motor vehicle accidents.
There were 3,030 calls for service that generated 490 written reports.
Revenue:
Chief Gagne reported that the Records Division took in the following revenue:
Report sales $139.00
Parking tags $325.00
Fingerprints $20.00
Permits $760.OO
For a total of $1,244.00.
Expenditures:
Chief Gagne explained that the expenditures for the month were routine and highlighted expenses for training, medical supplies, a recruit physical, computer equipment, and cleaning supplies.
Budget Balances Chief Gagne went over the budget – no major concerns.
Chief Gagne explained that overtime is continuing to be very low and the department spent less in overtime at this point than it did at the same time last year.
Old Business:
CLESPP Audit (Compliance to Law Enforcement Standards and Practices Program): This is the minimum standards audit which will eventually lead to accreditation. The audit is complete and was successful, Mark Fasano felt the department was well on its way to accreditation.
DARE Graduations: All are complete, Det. Bailey did an excellent job mentoring, telling stories for parents, etc. It was a successful year for DARE.
Cell Block Project: Chief Gagne advised that there is no real change. He did advise the Board of Finance that bids came in unexpectedly high. Waiting to hear back from the architect.
New Business General Order s-14 Family Violence: There have been changes to the Family Violence Laws, so the OPD policy has been changed to support the new laws.
Wiring Project – New Phone System: The town is implementing a new phone system which requires pre-wiring of all buildings. It is a 3 week/phase project for the Police Department and it is now in phase 2.
Citizens Academy: New Academy will be starting April 24, 2019, for 8 weeks from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
Correspondence Charles Sherwood SCCJA – thanking Sgt. Aquino for serving on the oral board examination panel for the position of Recruit Police Officer.
Personnel Letter from Chief Gagne to Sgt. Mike Kosh – thanking him for his service as the ISU Interim Commander. Chief Gagne advised the board that Sgt. Kosh did an outstanding job.
Recruit Graduation – March 27, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at SCSU for Officers Withington and Coutu. Their swearing-in will be Thursday, March 28 at 9:00 a.m.
Super Plunge for Special Olympics – Officer Peterson has taken an enthusiastic interest in the Torch Run and all fundraisers for Special Olympics. He has a fundraising page. On March 30 – March 31, he will be jumping into Long Island Sound in Westbrook every hour for 24 hours. The OPD will have people there to support him.
