Carola Malinowski, 78, a lifelong resident of Orange, left this world on March 22, after a long battle with dementia.
Born August 7, 1944, she was a delightful child and strove to make everyone laugh and smile, a trait that lasted all her life. She graduated from Laurelton Hall in Milford and continued her education at Green Mountain College in Vermont and Drake University in Iowa. She developed a great interest in playwriting and pursued it with enthusiasm.
She loved all kinds of animals, volunteering at and supporting local animal shelters and adopting several dogs and cats over the years. She also spent time in Arkansas at an elephant refuge, helping care for displaced and injured elephants.
Carola loved traveling, visiting Europe and Northern Africa multiple times, including a trip to Egypt and a visit to the Pyramids with her lifelong friend and travel partner, Bev McClure.
She worked for over 20 years at Subway in International Franchise Sales. Talking to people all over the world was a deeply satisfying and very appropriate job for Carola. She retired in 2010.
Carola’s late parents were John and Sophia Malinowski. She is survived by her sister Roberta (Raymond) Carlson, nephews Verne (Catherine) Mattson, and Christopher (Tracy) Mattson, niece Robbie (Gene) Bagnoli, and many grandnieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caretakers at Chatham House and at Hospice for their caring and kindness. And a special thanks to devoted niece, Robbie Bagnoli, for her 4 years of caring for Carola. It will always be most appreciated and remembered.
A Mass of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, June 10 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Infant Church, Orange. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the West Haven Animal Shelter.
