Obituary: Frances Bichi Mantiglia, 101, Beloved Mother, Grandmother

Frances Bichi Mantiglia, 101, of Orange, beloved wife of the late Joseph E. Mantiglia Sr., passed away on January 8, 2026, surrounded by her family, at Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael Campus.

Loving mother of Joseph E. (Deborah) Mantiglia Jr. of Orange and Carla B. Mantiglia of Orange and Fairfield. Grandmother of Anthony Mantiglia. Frances was predeceased by her brother, Americo Bichi. She is also survived by many relatives.

Frances was born in Florence, Italy, on April 28, 1924, the daughter of the late Carlo and Palmira (Guarnieri) Bichi. She immigrated to the United States at age 3. Frances loved cooking, traveling the world, fashion, art, and music. She was a woman of great faith and was very devoted to her church. Before her retirement, Frances worked for the Town of Orange–she loved working so much that she retired at age 91.

Family and friends may call at the Porto Funeral Home, 830 Jones Hill Road, West Haven, on Tuesday, January 13, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Her funeral procession will leave the Funeral Home on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Avenue, West Haven.
