Winter Storm Aspen arrived in our area just before 7 p.m. and the Orange Highway Department crew was ready for it.
According to Crew Chief Donny Foyer, the town employees were scheduled to start their engines at 7 p.m., pre-treat roads with straight salt then ride it out, doing what has to be done to make the roads safe for all drivers, including police, and emergency vehicles.
“It’s the kind of storm that we have to play by ear,” Foyer said. “The north side of town may stay as just snow, while the south side of town may see a lot of rain and be a slushy mix.”
The initial plan is to have the 15 Highway crew working to maintain the 110 miles of roadways tonight/tomorrow and not have any contractors’ help yet.
The temperature isn’t supposed to go below freezing, so even if there is a slushy mess, at least it won’t ice up.
But rest assured, Orange, the Highway Department has your back.
If you must be out driving and you see a plow coming your way be sure to stay out of its way and don’t follow too close either, you most likely will be in the driver’s blind spot.
