Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday night, K9 Officer Chris Brown was dispatched to assist the fire department with a reported possible car fire on Marsh Hill Road near the Outback Steakhouse.
Upon arrival, there was a minor engine fire to the disabled vehicle, Officer Brown stopped behind the (disabled) pickup truck in the center lane of southbound Marsh Hill Road and as he approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, he was struck by a white 2013 Nissan Rogue driven by Arthur Schultz (age 76) out of Stratford, CT that was traveling S/B in the left turn lane of Marsh Hill Road.
According to WTNH8, the people in the pickup pulled the officer to safety away from the burning truck and waited for an ambulance.
Officer Brown was transported to Yale Hospital by AMR ambulance. Miraculously, he did not suffer any apparent broken bones or serious internal injuries from the collision.
Mr. Schultz remained on scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation, which is being conducted by the CT State Police.
The southbound side of Marsh Hill Road was closed during the investigation.
Officer Brown was released from the hospital early Friday morning and is resting at home. The total extent of his injuries are still not known.
The Connecticut State Police is assisting with the on-going investigation.
