Orange Police responded to a complaint of a shoplifting in progress at the Target store, 25 Boston Post Road on July 17 at 2:30 p.m.
During the investigation, officers learned that Wendy Shaw, 36, of New Haven allegedly had attempted to take $733.69 worth of merchandise without paying for it.
Shaw was taken into custody and charged with fifth-degree larceny and possession of less than a half an ounce of marijuana.
She was held on $500 non-surety bond for court July 18.
