The Amity Spartans Boys Basketball team hosted the Daniel Hand Tigers in Woodbridge on Friday night.If ever there was a nailbiter, this game was it.
The Spartans had the lead in the first two quarters, going into the half at 27-20.
The Tigers pulled ahead with a great third quarter and 19 points to Amity’s 11 – Score 39-38.
Both teams fought hard for the rest of the game, tying in the fourth at 48 and going into overtime. Free throws brought them to a 50-50 tie after the first overtime period.
Early in the second overtime, Tyler Thomas added 2 points for the Spartans with a basket. Then Hand tied it up at 52. Amity’s James Van Hise pulled Amity ahead to 54 -52. Hand moved forward with a foul shot, but with less than 20 seconds left on the clock, Joe Benedetti closed things up with a free throw giving Amity a 55-53 victory.
Two Tylers, Amity’s Tyler Thomas and Hand’s Tyler Boris were their respective team’s high scoring players with 19 points each.
