It’s been a while, but we have some excellent news on the boys hockey front.
The Amity Spartans have had a rough season, wrought with losses and games filled with much too much time in the penalty box.
On Monday, during a late night game (8:45 p.m. starting time) the team had a much better showing, making the first goal just shy of two minutes of hitting the ice against East Haven.
At 9 trips to the penalty box they and East Haven were nearly 50/50, an improvement from previous games. Even so, come on, boys, just think of what you could have accomplished had you spent that time on the ice instead of locked up on the sidelines — the same goes for you, East Haven!First Period
At 13:02 Amity’s Matt Wezenski (#19) scored the first goal assisted by Will Delvecchio (#2) and Cam Delvecchio (#12).
East Haven answered a little more than 5 minutes later with Gennaro Pompano (#88) getting one past Amity Goalie Aiden Courtney, assisted by Parker Sprankle (#10 and Michael Savo
(#7).
(#7).Score 1-1
Second Period
Amity showed a lot of determination when they returned to the ice, but the tie held strong for the first 11:22 minutes, then Kyle Hummel (#18) slammed one in on an assist from Ethan Moffett (#9).
Score 3-1 Amity
Third Period
Swearing not to be humiliated on their home ice, East Haven came on strong in the final period.
At 8:38 Josh Salvati tied the game at 3 with an unassisted goal.
Now it was officially a nail-biter, Amity fans hoped it would go their way this time.
Almost three minutes ticked by aaaaaand slam! Dom Harris (#27) pulled Amity ahead. There was a lot of back and forth for the next 5:42 as both team battled for a win. Then with :55 remaining Amity’s Eli Gregory sealed the deal and the Spartans celebrated a victory. Final Score 6-3 Amity
Congratulations Boys, Coach Scooter Richetelli and staff. A job well done!

On Wednesday, Jan. 26, the Spartans had a home game against Sheehan in West Haven.
“Home” hasn’t been too kind to our boys this season and although they played their hearts out, the outcome simply wasn’t in their favor. Amity lost 3-7.This coming Sunday’s game against BBD in Danbury has been postponed, so the next game will be Away at the Northford Ice Pavilion against Lyman Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 3:50 p.m.
