In the course of the service we’ll nibble on a variety of kugels in the Social Hall, as the rabbi explains their history! Why is Kugel eaten on Shabbat? Why is it called “Kugel”? Do you call it “Kigel” or Kugel? Why the different pronunciations? Did you grow up with a “Galicianer” kugel or a “Litvisher” kugel? What’s “Jerusalem” kugel? Why are some kugels sweet, while others are savory?  It’s all food for thought!

Celebrating the 90th Birthday of a Jewish-American Classic Sunday, March 18, 3:30 pm.  Did you know that the original “Jazz Singer”, starring Al Jolson, was Hollywood’s first talking motion picture?  Did you know that Danny Thomas, Jerry Lewis and Neil Diamond starred as “Jazz Singers” as well?  What is the enduring allure of this story? What was its origin? How does it speak to us today? Watch Jerry Lewis’ 1959 50-minute NBC performance of the Jazz Singer, as well as clips from other incarnations of this Jewish American classic. Discuss its significance with our guest speaker! Guest Speaker: Dr. Eric Goldman
