During the investigation, officers learned that restaurant employees were cleaning up tables in the dining area when they discovered a number of empty liquor bottles left on one of them.
The employees tried to stop the person who had been seated at that table, from driving away as they were concerned he may have been under the influence of alcohol.
When the restaurant employees approached him, Stephen Soares, 38, of New Haven, lifted his shirt to reveal a holstered handgun, and asked the employees “Who is going to do something?”
Officers seized the handgun, Soares was taken into custody and formally charged with second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.
He was released after posting $2,500 bond for court Oct. 11.
