Fatal Crash On Route 34 Sunday Morning

Orange police are investigating a deadly crash on Route 34 early Sunday Morning (Nov. 2).

A wrong-way driver on Derby Avenue was reported to police around 1:33 a.m. near the Parkway interchange.

According to the report, a dark colored 2022 Honda Civic was going westbound in the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a BMW SUV near the intersection with Baldwin Road.

Orange Volunteer firefighters extricated the car’s driver from the vehicle. He was brought to Yale New Haven Hospital, but died from his injuries. The man has not yet been identified.

The SUV was occupied by four people, all of whom suffered serious, but non-life -threatening injuries, and were transported to Yale.

The eastbound side of Derby Avenue was closed for about three hours while investigators processed the crash scene, but all lanes were reopened by 5 a.m.  

The witness remained on-scene and is assisting in the investigation.
